Description
Introduce your church’s children to the Beatitudes, Jesus’ teachings from Matthew 5: 1-12. This 7-part children’s message series examines six of the Beatitudes, helping kids understand what Jesus’ Good News was and how it relates to their lives.
Written for preschool and elementary aged children, but instructive and inspiring for all ages!
The 7 weeks cover:
Series Introduction – If Jesus showed up in your everyday life and shouted, “Good News,” would you stop and listen? Invite kids to ponder as you introduce the Beatitudes and set the stage for coming messages.
Blessed are the poor – Tell the story of Julian of Norwich to demonstrate how living with few material possessions can open the way to feel closer to God.
Blessed are those who mourn – Use the characters from the movie Inside Out to demonstrate how we all have big feelings and God is always with us, especially when we have big feelings that are hard.
Blessed are the meek – Play with a Would You Rather movement game to explore how God made lots of different kinds of people and God values everyone, including those who are quieter than others.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness – Kids know what it feels like to be filled when they are physically hungry and thirsty. This message uses that reference point to start to understand what Jesus meant when he talked about people who hunger and thirst for righteousness.
Blessed are the merciful – This message shares a story of a person who made a serious, accidental mistake and then received God’s mercy and comfort in a powerful way. It invites listeners to consider how they have caused harm and hopefully also received God’s mercy.
Blessed are the peacemakers – Use pictures to consider what is peaceful and what is not as you discuss how God values peacemakers. This message invites and challenges kids to both feel and create peace in their lives.
